Analysis of honey - Determination of water-insoluble solids
Untersuchung von Honig - Bestimmung des Gehaltes an wasserunlöslichen Stoffen
Overview
This standard specifies a test method for the determination of water-insoluble solids in honey. When measuring the water-insoluble solids, the contaminations of honey and thus the quality aspects of honey are determined. These contaminations may be wax, dirt and insect parts, in particular bee brood and other macroscopic impurities. Ready-for-consumption, prepackaged honey which is optically very contaminated can be objected. According to the Honigverordnung (German Honey Ordinance) the content of water-insoluble solids shall not exceed 0,1 g per 100 g honey. For pressed honey only 0,5 g per 100 g honey are acceptable. The water-insoluble solids are also referred to as sediments. The committee responsible for this standard is NA 057-05-08 AA "Honiguntersuchung" ("Analysis of honey") at DIN.
