Carbonate and silicate liming materials - Determination of reactivity - Potentiometric titration method with hydrochloric acid; German version EN 13971:2012
Carbonatische und silikatische Kalke - Bestimmung der Reaktivität - Potentiometrisches Titrationsverfahren mit Salzsäure; Deutsche Fassung EN 13971:2012
Overview
The European Standard has been prepared at CEN/TC 260 "Fertilizers and liming materials" (secretariat: DIN) by Working Group WG 3 "Fertilizers and liming materials", under German chairmanship and with the active collaboration of German experts. The national Mirror Committee is Working Committee NA 057-03-02 AA "Düngemittel" ("Fertilizers") at the Food and Agricultural Products Standards Committee (NAL). The document contains a method for the determination of the speed and effectiveness of the neutralising potential of calcium carbonate, calcium magnesium carbonate and calcium magnesium silicate liming materials by potentiometric titration with hydrochloric acid. The revision of the May 2008 edition was carried out with the aim of the extension of the scope with regard to determination of silicate liming materials. For determination of precision of the method for this product group, an inter-laboratory test has been carried out on the basis of converter lime. The method is applicable only to liming materials with a maximum particle size of 6,3 mm. The results obtained by this method can be used to estimate the behaviour of the liming material in the soil. The results show a good correlation with the results obtained by the soil incubation methods in accordance with DIN EN 14984. Regarding the precision of the method, the results are not used to declare a value, but to classify the different product groups.
