Title (German)

Zigaretten - Bestimmung des Kohlenmonoxidgehalts in der Gasphase von Zigarettenrauch - NDIR-Verfahren (ISO 8454:2007 + Amd.1:2009)

Overview

The International Standard ISO 8454 specifies a method for the determination of carbon monoxide (CO) in the vapour phase of cigarette smoke. The cigarettes are smoked in accordance with the procedures given in ISO 4387. The vapour phase of the cigarette smoke obtained during this procedure is collected and the carbon monoxide is measured using a non-dispersive infrared (NDIR) analyser calibrated for carbon monoxide. The amount of carbon monoxide per cigarette is calculated. An Amendment has been published in 2009 stating that no machine smoking regime can represent all human smoking behaviour. Working Committee NA 057-04-01 AA "Tabak und Tabakerzeugnisse" ("Tobacco and tobacco products") of the Food and Agricultural Products Standards Committee (NAL) at DIN decided to supplement DIN ISO 8454 which has been published in 2009 by incorporating the Amendment to ISO 8454. The Working Committee made its decision in particular from the point of view of a necessary harmonization of the international and national standards in the field of smoke analysis. The amendments are indicated in the text by a vertical line in the left margin. The committee responsible for this standard is NA 057-04-01 AA "Tabak und Tabakerzeugnisse" ("Tobacco and tobacco products") at DIN.
