Analysis of tobacco and tobacco products - Determination of nicotine content - Gaschromatographic method
Untersuchung von Tabak und Tabakerzeugnissen - Bestimmung des Nikotingehaltes - Gaschromatographisches Verfahren
Overview
DIN 10373 specifies a method for the gaschromatographic determination of the nicotine content in tobacco and tobacco products. The ground tobacco samples are extracted under strong alkaline conditions. The nicotine content is determined by gas chromatography in an aliquot of the extraction solution. The nicotine content is calculated after determination of the water content of the tobacco sample on the basis of the dry mass of tobacco used. With respect to DIN 10373:2003-01, the reference to DIN 10252 has been replaced by DIN ISO 6488 and the reference to DIN 10257-1 has been replaced by DIN ISO 15592-1; the reference to DIN 12697 has been deleted. Furthermore, the dated references have been changed to undated and the following Corrigendum 1 has been adopted: in 4.5 Extractant, "500 µg n-Heptadecan" has been replaced by "500 mg n-Heptadecan". The term "eingespritzt" has been replaced by "injiziert" (German version only). The Committee responsible for this standard is NA 057-04-01 AA "Tabak und Tabakerzeugnisse" ("Tobacco and tobacco products") at DIN.
