Fire hazard testing - Part 1-21: Guidance for assessing the fire hazard of electrotechnical products - Ignitability - Summary and relevance of test methods (IEC 60695-1-21:2016); German version EN 60695-1-21:2016
Prüfungen zur Beurteilung der Brandgefahr - Teil 1-21: Anleitung zur Beurteilung der Brandgefahr von elektrotechnischen Erzeugnissen - Entzündbarkeit - Zusammenfassung und Bedeutung der Prüfverfahren (IEC 60695-1-21:2016); Deutsche Fassung EN 60695-1-21:2016
Overview
When designing an electrotechnical product, the risk of fire and the potential hazards associated with fires shall be taken into account and minimized as far as possible by dimensioning components, designing the circuit and selecting materials. The basic principle is to prevent any ignition or, if necessary, to contain the spread of fire. Part -1-21 summarizes the test methods available in the IEC 60695 series for the determination of flammability and also provides methods for quantifying flammability as an essential property depending on product design, with influences of geometry and orientation towards a possibly cooling air flow, or also the state of aggregation at ignition. This first edition of IEC 60695-1-21 is based on IEC/TR 60695-1-21 (2008) and - in addition to the necessary formal changes - also represents a technical revision of the IEC TR. It has the status of a basic safety standard in accordance with IEC Guide 104 and ISO/IEC Guide 51. The standard is aimed at technical committees for implementation in standards. Application-specific integration is then the responsibility of the respective technical committee. The responsible committee is DKE/K 133 "Prüfverfahren und Beurteilung der Brandgefahr von elektronischen Produkten und Isolierstoffen" ("Fire hazard testing of electronic products and insulating material") of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) at DIN and VDE
