Overview
The committee responsible for this standard is NA 105-00-03 AA "Übersetzungs- und Dolmetschdienstleistungen" ("Translation and Interpreting services") at DIN. EN ISO 17100 has been prepared by Technical Committee ISO/TC 37 "Terminology and other language and content resources", Subcommittee SC 5 "Translation, interpreting and related technology". The EN ISO document has been developed in parallel procedure under the Vienna Agreement and is also the revision of EN 15038:2006. At CEN the project is assigned to CEN/SS A07 "Translation services", which currently has no active working group. At DIN the project has been shifted from the disbanded "Normenausschuss Gebrauchstauglichkeit und Dienstleistungen" ("Performance Capability and Services Standards Committee") to DIN Standards Committee "Terminologie" ("Terminology") that, in 2011, reactivated its Working Committee NA 105-00-03 AA with the new title "Übersetzungs- und Dolmetschdienstleistungen" ("Translation and Interpreting services"). EN ISO 17100 defines the requirements for all aspects of the translation process that directly affect the quality and delivery of translation services. It includes rules for translation service providers (TSPs) on the management of core processes, minimum requirements for competence, availability and use of resources, and other activities necessary for the provision of a high quality translation service. This document is intended for translation service providers of different sizes. Compliance requires adherence to all of the provisions of the standard, but the methods of applying them may vary depending on the size and complexity of the organization and, in some cases, the scope and complexity of the translation service required by the translation service provider. The document sets out requirements for the core processes, resources and other aspects necessary to provide a high quality translation service that meets the applicable specifications. Neither the use of raw output from a machine translation plus post-editing nor interpreting services is within the scope of this document.
