Overview
This European Standard specifies a method for identifying the release of nickel from all post assemblies which are inserted into pierced ears and other pierced parts of the human body and articles intended to come into direct and prolonged contact with the skin in order to determine whether such articles are in compliance with the Regulation No 552/2009 amending Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006 of the European Parliament and the Commission REACH, Annex XVII. The present version of EN 1811 also includes the amendment to this European Standard adopted by CEN in 2015 in order to specify the informative Annex A, which provides additional information on the application of the measurement uncertainty for the values determined for nickel release measurement. Spectacle frames and sunglasses are excluded from the scope of this European Standard, see EN 16128.
