Overview

This European Standard specifies a method for identifying the release of nickel from all post assemblies which are inserted into pierced ears and other pierced parts of the human body and articles intended to come into direct and prolonged contact with the skin in order to determine whether such articles are in compliance with the Regulation No 552/2009 amending Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006 of the European Parliament and the Commission REACH, Annex XVII. Spectacle frames and sunglasses are excluded from the scope of this European Standard. Spectacle frames and sunglasses are subject to the requirements of EN 16128, which contains an unmodified new publication of the technical requirements which were originally contained in EN 1811:1998, but is limited to spectacle frames and sunglasses in the scope. The committee responsible for EN 1811 is NA 027-04-07 AA "Analyseverfahren für Allergene" ("Methods for analysis of allergens") of the Optics and Precision Mechanics Standards Committee (NAFuO) at DIN.
