DIN Standards Committee Optics and Precision Mechanics

Overview

DIN 58298 is a generic standard for medical instruments used in health care, and specifies the materials, finish and testing of medical instruments. It applies to instruments the product standard of which refers to this standard. The application of this standard is also recommended to non-standardized instruments, provided that they can be assigned to a group of instruments. Reference shall be made to this generic standard in the order or delivery documents. This standard addresses medical instruments manufacturers and has a cost-reducing effect, as the standard lists materials which are used most often. The Committee responsible for this standard is NA 027-02-01 AA "Chirurgische Instrumente" ("Surgical instruments") at DIN.
