DIN Standards Committee Optics and Precision Mechanics

About NAFuO

The DIN Standards Committee for Precision Mechanics and Optics (NAFuO) is responsible for standardization in

  • precision mechanics - including in healthcare technology,
  • microsystems technology,
  • optics and photonics
  • as well as jewellery and horology.

The NAFuO also covers the biological evaluation and clinical investigation of medical devices, and tissue engineering. In the field of personal protective equipment, it is responsible for the standardization of personal eye protection, respiratory protective devices and diving equipment.

Most of the documents developed by the NAFuO are "harmonized" European Standards which give detail to the essential safety requirements laid down in European Directives. These harmonized standards are essential for placing products to the European market.

The Committee also aims at making as many standards as possible available at international level to reflect the global nature of these markets and to promote the global harmonization of approval procedures, particularly in the medical devices sector.

The NAFuO monitors all current developments in its areas of activity and is very open to new technologies and trends.

Feel free to contact us any time if you see the need to standardize a particular subject.
