Dentistry - Refractory investment and die material (ISO 15912:2016); German version EN ISO 15912:2016
Zahnheilkunde - Hochtemperaturbeständige Einbettmassen und Stumpfmaterialien (ISO 15912:2016); Deutsche Fassung EN ISO 15912:2016
Overview
The dental technician uses refractory investment that meets special quality requirements during casting in order to manufacture metallic crowns and bridges for a patient. Good workability, high accuracy of fit and excellent surface quality are the principal requirements for dental casting investment. The solidified investment mold is colloquially referred to as a muffle. This standard has been prepared by ISO/TC 106/SC 2/WG 13 "Investments" (secretariat: ANSI, USA), in collaboration with CEN/TC 55 "Dentistry" (secretariat: DIN). The committee responsible at DIN-NADENT is Working Committee NA 014-00-09 AA "Gipse, Wachse, Einbettmassen" ("Gypsum, waxes, investments "). The standard specifies requirements and test methods for dental casting, soldering and refractory investments, for refractory die materials and for investments for processing dental pressable ceramics. The application- and indication-oriented classification is described, irrespective of the type of binder system or the special composition. This standard divides dental investments into four types according to the intended application and into two classes according to the preheating procedure recommended by the manufacturer. The essential physical and mechanical properties such as material consistency, flowability, initial setting time, compressive strength and linear thermal expansion are specified. Requirements for information to be provided with each package and for directions for use and labeling are also specified. Safety-related information for the identification of quartz-containing products is also specified, for example pictogram for specific target organ toxicity in case of repeated exposure (STOT RE1).
