Overview
The chewing function of toothless people can be restored with implant-supported or implant-supported prostheses. These prosthetic superstructures are fixed to dental implants using suitable assemblies. Magnetic keepers provide one way of fixing. Standard DIN EN ISO 13017 specifies requirements and test methods for assessing the applicability of dental magnetic attachments that provide retention, support and stabilization of crowns and bridges, removable partial dentures and overdentures, superstructures of dental implants and orthodontic or maxillofacial prostheses including obturators. The proposed Amendment 1 relates to the test method for the retentive force which is now described in a more practical way. The international draft standard has been prepared by ISO/TC 106/SC 2/WG 22 "Magnetic attachments" (secretariat: Japan), in collaboration with CEN/TC 55 "Dentistry" (secretariat: DIN). The responsible working committee at DIN is NA 014-00-21 AA "Dentalimplantate" ("Dental implants") of NADENT.
