Implants for surgery - Ceramic materials based on yttria-stabilized tetragonal zirconia (Y-TZP) (ISO 13356:2015); German version EN ISO 13356:2015
Chirurgische Implantate - Keramische Werkstoffe aus yttriumstabilisiertem tetragonalem Zirkoniumoxid (Y-TZP) (ISO 13356:2015); Deutsche Fassung EN ISO 13356:2015
Overview
The standard describes properties and associated test methods for ceramics made of yttrium-stabilized zirconia used for the fabrication of surgical implants. In dentistry, these ceramics are used for abutments and for endosseous ceramic implants. While the placement of endosseous ceramic implants is limited to special applications (esthetics, allergy cases), more and more abutments are being made of zirconium oxide (with or without an adhesive base) due to the ever-increasing use of CAD/CAM manufacturing technology. The definition of quality-relevant requirements is an important step towards further improvement of the already very good medical products. The International Standard has been prepared by ISO/TC 150/SC 1/WG 3 "Mechanical testing" (secretariat: ANSI, USA), in collaboration with CEN/TC 55 "Dentistry" (secretariat: DIN). The responsible committee at DIN is Working Committee NA 014-00-21 AA "Dentalimplantate" ("Dental implants") of NADENT.
