This Working Committee discusses standardization of orthodontic products, such as brackets, tubes, wires, bands and elastic elements. The development of a test procedure for adhesives for orthodontic retention elements is difficult. Brackets are attached to the teeth of the patient, and the bonding between adhesive and retention element or tooth enamel is physical or chemical by nature. It should not loosen during orthodontic treatment. However, at the end the of treatment, the retention element must be removed with orthodontic forceps or instruments without damaging the enamel.
