Overview
Annex B of DIN EN 62305-2 (VDE 0185-305-3) provides that, if justified, different values than those listed may be chosen. Annex C of DIN EN 62305-2 (VDE 0185-305-2) states that deviating values may be chosen by each National Committee or after a detailed analysis. In this Supplement, the Tables from DIN EN 62305-2 (VDE 0185-305-2), Annex B and Annex C, have been supplemented or modified in order to better correspond to the structural, technical and administrative conditions and particularities in Germany. It also adequately takes into account the existing experiences and assessments usually made in Germany regarding the probability of damage and losses. In DIN EN 62305-2 (VDE 0185-305-2), the procedure for risk management in the case of potentially explosive structures is only presented incompletely and too general. Annex NX presents such a procedure in detail and in an exemplary fashion. Two case studies (Annex EX) complete this presentation. In principle, legal provisions resulting from the Industrial Safety Regulation and the Technical Rules for Industrial Safety shall be followed. This generally results in at least class II in case of lightning protection systems for potentially explosive areas. DIN EN 62305-3 (VDE 0185-305-3) and DIN EN 62305-3, Supplement 2 (VDE 185-305-3, Supplement 2), describe typical protection measures for structures with potentially explosive areas to achieve the protection targets. Using the Annexes NX and EX, the efficiency of the protection measures resulting from the aforementioned legal provisions can be presented and verified. The normative provisions are considered achieved if the tolerable risks for all relevant types of damage are securely reached or undershot. The responsible committee is DKE/K 251 "Blitzschutzanlagen und Blitzschutzbauteile" of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) at DIN and VDE.
