Reaction to fire tests for floorings - Part 1: Determination of the burning behaviour using a radiant heat source (ISO 9239-1:2010); German version EN ISO 9239-1:2010
Prüfungen zum Brandverhalten von Bodenbelägen - Teil 1: Bestimmung des Brandverhaltens bei Beanspruchung mit einem Wärmestrahler (ISO 9239-1:2010); Deutsche Fassung EN ISO 9239-1:2010
Overview
This European Standard describes a method for assessing the wind-opposed burning behaviour and spread of flame of horizontally mounted floorings exposed to a heat flux radiant gradient in a test chamber, when ignited with pilot flames. If an assessment of the smoke development is necessary, the details shall be taken from the standard (Annex A). This test method is applicable to all types of flooring, for instance textile carpet, cork, wood, rubber and plastics coverings as well as coatings. Results obtained by this test method reflect the burning behaviour of the entire tested flooring, including any substrate if used. Modifications of the backing, bonding to a substrate, underlay or other changes of the flooring may affect test results. This standard is applicable to the measurement and description of the properties of floorings in response to stress by heat and flame under controlled laboratory conditions. It should not be used alone to describe or evaluate the fire hazard or fire risk of floorings under actual fire conditions. The European Standard has been prepared by ISO/TC 92/SC 1 "Fire initiation and growth" (according to the Vienna Agreement; leadership: ISO) and CEN/TC 127 "Structural Fire Protection", the secretariats of which are held by BSI (United Kingdom). The national Mirror Committee is Working Committee NA 005-52-14 AA "Brandverhalten von Baustoffen und Bauteilen - Bodenbeläge" ("Fire behaviour of building materials and elements - Flooring coverings") at DIN.
