Overview
This standard specifies a test method for determining the non-combustibility performance, under specified conditions, of homogeneous construction products and substantial components of non-homogeneous construction products. This test method has been developed for use by those responsible for the selection of construction products. These construction products, whilst not completely inert, produce only a very limited amount of heat and flame when exposed to temperatures of approximately 750 °C. The limitation of the field of application to homogeneous construction products and substantial components of non-homogeneous construction products was introduced because of problems in defining specifications for the specimens. The composition of a specimen of non-homogeneous construction products strongly influences the test results, which is the reason non-homogeneous construction products cannot be tested to this standard. The European Standard has been prepared by ISO/TC 92/SC 1 "Fire initiation and growth" (under ISO-lead mode of collaboration as defined in the Vienna Agreement) and CEN/TC 127 "Fire safety in buildings", the secretariats of which are held by BSI (United Kingdom). At DIN the national Mirror Committee is Working Committee NA 005-52-01 AA "Brandverhalten von Baustoffen und Bauteilen - Baustoffe" ("Fire behaviour of building materials and building components - Building materials") of NABau.
