DIN Standards Committee Building and Civil Engineering

Overview

This European Standard specifies the procedures for preparing reports on the determination of the extended application of the results of reaction to fire tests on construction products, fire resistance tests and external fire exposure to roof tests undertaken for fire classification of products and product families in accordance with the various parts of the EN 13501 series. This European Standard makes reference to "extended application standards" throughout. Wherever this term is used it refers to another standard prepared by CEN/TC 127 "Fire safety in buildings" which includes information on the extended application. In some cases, where a standard has not yet been published, the responsible bodies may issue recommendations for use by the notified bodies in conformity attestation procedures for CE marking under the Construction Products Directive (CPD). The European system currently permits extended application rules to be included in technical specifications. The CEN technical committees and the EOTA Working Groups producing these rules are asked to make use of the contributions made by CEN/TC 127 to ensure that their rules comply with the standards prepared by CEN/TC 127. In cases where the extended application rules in harmonized EN product standards and technical approvals (ETAs) do not comply with the standards prepared by CEN/TC 127, the CEN/BT shall be informed. This procedure saves costs since, beyond the direct field of application, changes are possible within the framework of the extended application without having to carry out new expensive tests on the construction product to be changed. At DIN, the German Institute for Standardisation, the responsible committee is Working Committee NA 005-52-02 AA "Brandverhalten von Baustoffen und Bauteilen - Bauteile" ("Fire performance of building materials and building elements - Building elements") of the Building and Civil Engineering Standards Committee (NABau).
