Free of charge: The digital terminology collection for road vehicle repair and maintenance information

The German Institute for Standardization (DIN) now offers the trilingual terminology collection “Digital annex road vehicle repair and maintenance information (RMI)” free of charge. Via the DIN Media website, interested parties - such as independent workshops or providers of terminology databases - can obtain and use, free of charge, the extensive specialist terminology compiled by DIN with the broad participation of experts.

Because vehicle manufacturers use different designations for vehicle components that are sometimes functionally identical, there is a need for a uniform and neutral collection of terms. The terminology collection thus lists common terms used for each component. This not only makes it easier to find a term, but also to assign different designations to a component. The aim is to use digital terminology to make the daily work of interested parties easier while opening up new markets for them. In particular, the search for repair and maintenance information of road vehicle manufacturers can be improved.

The digitally available terminology collection for road vehicle repair and maintenance information was established in 2018 by DIN on behalf of the European Commission and the European Committee for Standardisation (CEN) and together with the STAR Group and DIN Software GmbH. The development of the terminology collection was supported by almost all well-known vehicle manufacturers. Since then, the standardized technical terms have been included in numerous manufacturer's own databases, making the daily work of independent workshops considerably easier.

The collection will be regularly updated. Before new terminology is included, the experts involved will check the customary use and thematic relevance of the new terms.
