Industrial valves - Additional requirements for metallic valves for hydrogen application
Abstract
This document specifies information on provisions for industrial metallic valves for hydrogen applications and specifies additional requirements applicable to material selection, design, manufacture and final assessment different from the available European standards for metallic industrial valves. The provisions contained in this document are intended as a reference for purchasers and manufacturers of metallic industrial valves. This document distinguishes between four services/damage mechanisms, which might exist in combinations: • low temperature service; • hydrogen environmental embrittlement (HEE) or hydrogen-induced cracking (HIC); • high temperature hydrogen attack (HTHA); • hydrogen service with cyclic loads (fatigue). This document will take into account the difference between gaseous hydrogen (GH2) and liquid hydrogen (LH2), where necessary. The provisions described in this document can also be considered for safety valves and control valves, however their suitability has not been assessed in the context of this document.
