DIN 14924
Hatchet for firefighters with protective cover
Feuerwehrbeil mit Schutztasche
Overview
This consolidated new version of the standard contains all the changes suggested in the Draft Amendment E DIN 14924/A1:2014-08 without any modifications. The Amendment A1 to the standard DIN 14924 was necessary since the limiting material requirement for the exclusive use of full-grain cowhide leather for the protective cover is no longer up-to-date and split cowhide leather is just as suitable. The hatchet is part of the extended personal protective equipment of firefighters and is normally fastened to the firefighter belt. It is used for breaking in or, if required, as an additional door wedge when firefighting indoors. The tip of the hatched is designed so that it can also be used to open underground hydrant covers and wall hydrants on risers. A triangular insert integrated into the end of the handle of the hatchet allows bollards and posts to be opened. At DIN, the committee responsible for this standard is NA 031-04-03 AA "Persönliche Schutzausrüstung für die Feuerwehr - SpA zu CEN/TC 158/WG 3" ("Personal protective equipment for firefighters - Mirror Committee of CEN/TC 158/WG 3").
