Overview
This document contains terms and definitions relevant to springs in order to facilitate the discussion among designers, manufacturers and users of springs. The terms identified in this standard are primarily used for technical documentation of springs. Heat-treatment and surface-treatment terms pertinent to springs are included. Terms for non-metallic springs are not included in this standard. Certain terms and definitions from ISO 4885 are reproduced in this standard. Terms for materials are not contained in this document to avoid duplication and/or conflict with other International Standards on materials. The terms in DIN EN ISO 26909:2010 are grouped into the following seven categories: a) general features of springs; b) application of springs in machinery and engineering; c) layout and nomenclature of springs; d) specification requirements; e) design and calculation; f) manufacturing and processing; g) testing and inspection. In this standard the text of ISO 26909:2010 is displayed in three languages (German, English, French) in columns in order to enable the reader to directly compare the spring terminology and thus to facilitate its application. This document is intended to replace DIN ISO 2162-3:1994-08. The terms from ISO 2162-3 have been adopted without any modifications. This document (ISO 26909) has been prepared by Technical Committee ISO/TC 227 "Springs", the secretariat of which is held by JISC (Japan). The International Standard has been adopted as European Standard (EN ISO 26909). The responsible European Committee is CEN/SS F 01 "Technical drawings", the secretariat of which is held by CEN (European Committee for Standardization). The German language version has been prepared by NA 026-00-01 AA "Federn" ("Springs") of the Springs, Stamped Parts and Moulded Parts Standards Committee (NAFS) at DIN, the German Institute for Standardization e.
