DIN Standards Committee Railway

Overview

This document is the generic standard for reference masses of rail vehicles. In order to define the design, testing and operation of vehicles as a whole and of their main components, it is necessary to clearly specify the associated loading conditions. This European Standard specifies such values for reference masses of vehicles and describes their determination. The purpose of this document is to define the following reference masses for determining the requirements for design, testing, customer acceptance, marking, delivery and operation of railway vehicles: The unladen mass, the design mass of the vehicle ready for operation and the design mass with normal and with exceptional payload as well as the operating mass with normal payload and the operating mass of the vehicle ready for operation. These reference masses apply to the whole vehicle, but can also be applied to an individual system or component. Tolerances are not covered by this European Standard, but may be required in relevant application standards. The most important changes to the previous standard EN 15663:2009 are: general editorial reorganization of clauses and contents, a clause for abbreviations, further definitions in application standards, new requirements for standing surfaces in vehicle gangways and treatment of wheelchair loads, an Annex B for the application of reference dimensions of this EN 15663 in other European standards and an annex for their application in TSI regulations. This standard has been prepared under a mandate given to CEN by the European Commission and the European Free Trade Association. The responsible German committee is Working Committee NA 087-00-04 AA "Festigkeit/Kollisionssicherheit" ("Strength/crashworthiness") of the Railway Standardization Committee (FSF) at DIN Standards Committee Railway (FSF).
