Overview
This document is the generic standard for gauge lines for railway vehicles and deals with aspects of interfaces between vehicles and infrastructure within the scope of the EN 15273 series of standards. This document is part of the series "Railway applications - Gauges", which consists of the following parts: Part 1: General - Common rules for Rolling Stock and infrastructure. Part 2: Rolling stock gauge. Part 3: Structure gauges. The document is intended to replace existing regulations in this area, in particular UIC leaflets of the 505 and 506 series, and to define a common standard. This second part contains calculation rules for determining the vehicle gauges and the associated rules for the various reference profiles. The gauges included in these standards have been developed as part of their application on European railways. Other networks such as regional, local, urban and suburban networks may apply the gauge regulations defined in this standard. In this case, the rules may be used in particular for specific calculations for - specific rolling stock (for example underground trains, trams and so on operating on two rails); - other track curve radii. The catalog included in this standard only includes a selection of gauges. Each network is free to define the gauges in accordance with their own needs. Normative references exist to: EN 12299, EN 14363, EN 15663 and the other parts of the EN 15273 series of standards. This European Standard is to be applied by all those involved in rail transportation of any kind. It applies to the design of new and modernized rolling stock and to the verification of the gauge of existing rolling stock. By applying the rules of this European Standard, the limits for the dimensions of the vehicles can be defined in such a way that the structure gauge is maintained. This document has been prepared under a mandate given to CEN by the European Commission and the European Free Trade Association, and supports essential requirements of EU Directive 2008/57/EC. Compared to the previous standard, changes have been made to correct errors and inaccuracies, particularly with regard to figures for static and kinematic gauges.
