DIN 4124
Excavations and trenches - Slopes, planking and strutting breadths of working spaces
Baugruben und Gräben - Böschungen, Verbau, Arbeitsraumbreiten
Overview
This standard applies for sloped and planked excavations and trenches which have been dug out by hand or machine and in which in particular - buildings, for example, cellars or multi-storey car parks are installed, - ducts, for example, sewers, long-distance heating ducts or cable ducts are built, - soil explorations or archaeological excavations are carried out, and for other temporary excavations and all types of trenching, for example, for drive and dirt winding shafts. The standard also applies to already existing or newly built slopes, where construction work is carried out in their toe areas. It does not apply for graves for burials at graveyards. This standard regulates the execution of sloped or planked excavations and trenches. For simple cases it contains the design rules with which, when complied with, the verification of stability by calculation may be omitted, for example, for slope angles and standard designs of the horizontal or vertical shoring (standard shoring). Regarding invoicing, the specifications of the standard apply only in so far as they are regulated in Part C of the German Construction Contract Procedures (VOB). The committee responsible for this standard is NA 005-05-16 AA "Baugruben" ("Excavations") at DIN.
