DIN 89250
Junction boxes - AC/DC 16 A, 500 V, degree of protection IP56
Abzweigdosen - AC/DC 16 A, 500 V, Schutzgrad IP56
Overview
The junction box according to DIN 89250 made of brass is used for electrical installations in shipbuilding, preferably in the outside area and in the engine room. It is a worldwide known "classic" and belongs to the so-called "HNA installation material", the standardization of which was started by the "Commercial Ship Standards Committee" in the 1920s. The "HNA" was one of the two predecessors of today's DIN-NA 132 (DIN-NSMT). The junction box has a round design and consists of a lower part with two external fixing lugs and up to four cast-on spigots for accommodating cable glands according to DIN 89280 or VG 88877. It is closed with a flat lid. It is used not only on civilian seagoing and inland waterway vessels, but also by the German Navy. There is an informative annex describing special features for their use on naval vessels. Junction boxes according to DIN 89250 are still being manufactured and sold, although "more modern" successor models have long been established on the market. For this reason and because the "old" DIN 89250 from 1995 contained several invalid reference standards as well as partly obsolete requirements, tests and material designations, the present standard has been prepared by NA 132-03-52 AA "Installationsmaterial" ("Installation material") at DIN.
