Anodizing of aluminium and its alloys - Rating system for the evaluation of pitting corrosion - Grid method (ISO 8994:2011); German version EN ISO 8994:2011
Anodisieren von Aluminium und Aluminiumlegierungen - Bewertungssystem für Lochkorrosion - Rasterzählmethode (ISO 8994:2011); Deutsche Fassung EN ISO 8994:2011
Overview
This standard specifies a grid rating system that provides a means of defining levels of performance of anodic oxidation coatings on aluminium and its alloys that have been subjected to corrosion tests. The rating system is applicable to pitting corrosion resulting from - accelerated corrosion tests - exposure to corrosive environments - practical service tests. This standard only takes into account pitting corrosion of the basis metal resulting from penetration of the anodic oxidation coating. A comparable standard, ISO 8993, describes a similar rating system based on defined chart scales. This system is frequently used for rating the results of accelerated corrosion tests for relatively thin anodic oxidation and which are used in the automotive industry. The International/European Standard has been prepared under the leadership of ISO/TC 79/SC 2/WG 15 "Anodic oxidation coatings on aluminium" (secretariat: JISC, Japan) in a parallel procedure with CEN/TC 132/WG 15 "Aluminium anodisation" (secretariat: BSI, United Kingdom). On the national level the responsible Working Committee is NA 066-01-09 AA "Anodisch oxidiertes Aluminium" ("Aluminium anodisation") of FNNE.
