DIN EN ISO 13132
Laboratory glassware - Petri dishes (ISO 13132:2011); German version EN ISO 13132:2011
Laborgeräte aus Glas - Petrischalen (ISO 13132:2011); Deutsche Fassung EN ISO 13132:2011
Overview
Petri dishes are required and used in large amounts in laboratories for microbiological test and manufacturing methods. Handling of Petri dishes is often carried out in semi or fully automatic laboratory ware. The standard specifies requirements for materials, design and construction of re-usable Petri dishes. The corresponding requirements for single-use Petri dishes made of plastics have already been specified in DIN EN ISO 24998 in 2009. Dimensions, dimension ranges and tolerances for top and bottom dishes are laid down in tabular form and it is described how flatness of top and bottom dishes shall be determined. Other specifications contained in the standard refer to fitness of use. This includes stability, resistance to thermal deformation and sterilization and break as well as stability, when stacking, amongst others. Finally, requirements for the marking are specified. Normative Annex A of the standard describes the type test with which the flatness of the Petri bottom and top dish can be checked for compliance with the requirements of the standard. The International and European Standard was prepared upon a proposal put forward by India at ISO/TC 48 "Laboratory equipment" and CEN/TC 332 "Laboratory equipment". The responsible German Mirror Committee is AA "Glasgeräte und Apparate" ("Glassware and glass apparatus") of FNLa. DIN EN ISO 13132 replaces the older national standard DIN 12339:1984.
