DIN EN 1866-2
Mobile fire extinguishers - Part 2: Requirements for the construction, pressure resistance and mechanical tests for extinguishers, with a maximum allowable pressure equal to or lower than 30 bar, which comply with the requirements of EN 1866-1; German version EN 1866-2:2014
Overview
This European Standard specifies the rules of design, type testing, manufacturing and inspection during manufacturing of mobile fire extinguishers with metallic bodies, which comply with the requirements of EN 1866-1, as far as pressure resistance is concerned. Part 2 of the standard series applies to mobile fire extinguishers of which the maximum allowable pressure PS is lower than or equal to 30 bar and containing non-explosive, non-flammable, non-toxic and non-oxidizing fluids or powder. The European Standard does not apply to carbon dioxide fire extinguishers, however (these are dealt with in EN 1866-3). With this new Part 2 of the standard series EN 1866, the overall revision of the standard EN 1866 has been completed, since the previous edition DIN EN 1866:2006-03 is now replaced together with DIN EN 1866-1:2007-10 and DIN EN 1866-3:2013-08. Briefly summarized, the following significant modifications had to be made with respect to the previous edition DIN EN 1866:2006-03: - the content of the standard has been divided into three parts; - the Foreword has been revised and reference to EU Directive 97/23/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 29 May 1997 on the approximation of the laws of the Member States concerning pressure equipment has been deleted; - requirements for pressure-containing parts in accordance with the required specifications of EU Pressure Equipment Directive 97/23/EC have been deleted and are now included in DIN EN 1866-2, including Annex ZA on the relationship between this European Standard and the essential requirements of EU Directive 97/23/EC; - terms and definitions, as well as symbols and abbreviations have been partly revised; - specifications regarding characteristics and fire performance have been revised and included in DIN EN 1866-1; - requirements for mobile carbon dioxide extinguishers have been included; - requirements for the pressure resistance of mobile carbon dioxide extinguishers are now included in DIN EN 1866-3. The standard has been prepared under a mandate given to CEN by the European Commission and supports Essential Requirements of the New Approach Directive 97/23/EC, EU Pressure Equipment Directive. Once the standard is cited in the Official Journal of the European Union under that directive and has been implemented as a national standard in at least one Member State, compliance with the clauses of this standard given in Table ZA.1 confers, within the limits of the scope of this standard, a presumption of conformity with the corresponding essential requirements of that directive and associated EFTA regulations. The standard responsible for this standard is DIN Committee NA 031-01 FBR "Fachbereichsausschuss Handbetätigte Geräte für die Brandbekämpfung - SpA zu CEN/TC 70" ("Section Committee Manual Means of Firefighting - Mirror Committee of CEN/TC 70") (secretariat: AFNOR, France).
