DIN EN 14043
High rise aerial appliances for fire and rescue service use - Turntable ladders with combined movements - Safety and performance requirements and test methods; German version EN 14043:2014

Title (German)

Hubrettungsfahrzeuge für die Feuerwehr - Drehleitern mit kombinierten Bewegungen (Automatik-Drehleitern) - Sicherheits- und Leistungsanforderungen sowie Prüfverfahren; Deutsche Fassung EN 14043:2014

Overview

The standard has been prepared by Working Group CEN/TC 192/WG 4 "High rise aerial appliances" (secretariat: DIN, Germany) at European Technical Committee CEN/TC 192 "Fire and Rescue Service Equipment" (secretariat: BSI, Great Britain). Collaboration of DIN at the European Committee for Standardization (CEN) for the field of responsibility of Working Group CEN/TC 192/WG 4 "High rise aerial appliances" is performed through Working Committee NA 031-04-08 AA of the same name. Human rescue is the primary task of the turntable ladders at the place of action. The rescued persons can be safely moved downwards in the cage of turntable ladders. Furthermore the turntable ladders are used for example during elevated fire attack from the outside, for lighting, ventilation and partly as cranes. Turntable ladders with combined movements are the most commonly used high rise aerial appliances for fire and rescue service use in Germany. In addition to fully automatic turntable ladders in accordance with this standard there are still turntable ladders with sequential movements in accordance with DIN EN 147044. The turntable ladders with sequential movements can only perform one movement, fully automatic turntable ladders can perform all movements simultaneously. The amendment of the published standard EN 14043:2005+A1:2009 has become necessary to adapt the technical content to the state of the art and to promote future developments. For the types of turntable ladders recommended for application, the fire fighting equipment to be given in the order is given in national Annex NA. Working Committee NA 031-04-08 AA "Hubrettungsfahrzeuge" ("High rise aerial appliances") recommends the use of a three-person crew (1 driver + 2 persons; in German Truppbesatzung 1/2), and to ensure operability even in narrow areas a minimum load carrying capacity of two persons at a jacking width of 4,5 m or lower so that the nominal rescue projections specified for that type of ladder can be reached. Furthermore, greater nominal projections and jacking widths are permitted and are at the responsibility of the manufacturer. The user of this European Standard should note, that country-specific provisions of the construction law regarding areas for fire engines on plots of land as well as DIN 14090 apply which have effects on the design in terms of, for example dimensions, total effective vehicle mass and axle loads of high rise aerial appliances. GUV G 9102 contains provisions for regularly tests of high rise aerial appliances.
