Smoke alarm devices for use in residential buildings, apartments and rooms with similar purposes - Installation, use and maintenance
Rauchwarnmelder für Wohnhäuser, Wohnungen und Räume mit wohnungsähnlicher Nutzung - Einbau, Betrieb und Instandhaltung
Overview
The FNFW Working Committee NA 031-02-01 AA "Brandmelde- und Feueralarmanlagen" ("Fire detection and fire alarm systems") is responsible for this standard at DIN. This standard specifies minimum requirements for the planning, installation, use and maintenance of smoke alarm devices in accordance with DIN EN 14604 in residential buildings, apartments and rooms with similar purposes. This standard provides recommendations for the verification of the competence of service providers performing the planning, installation and maintenance of smoke alarm devices. Smoke alarm devices in the context of this standard can be networked together as individual smoke alarm devices and/or operated as a warning device. They may not however be connected to fire detection and fire alarm systems in accordance with DIN 14675 and DIN VDE 0833-2 (VDE 0833-2) or used as a replacement for a fire detection and fire alarm system required by special building regulations or building permission procedure. This standard is not applicable for rooms and structures in which a fire detection and fire alarm system complying with DIN 14675 and DIN VDE 0833-2 (VDE 0833-2) is called for by the building authorities. This standard is directed at authorities responsible for fire protection and persons participating in building, particularly experts, fire services, manufacturers of smoke alarm devices, planners, architects, builders, service providers of the real estate industry, building owners, property owners and inhabitants. The use of smoke alarm devices in the context of this standard aids the early warning of present persons about the presence of fire smoke and fires in order for these persons to react to the dangerous event in an appropriate way. Smoke alarm devices are not part of a fire detection and fire alarm system. As a result, they do not aid notification of an emergency assistance centre (for instance, the fire service) or the automatic forwarding of a warning to the fire service.
