DIN Standards Committee Firefighting and Fire Protection
Assembly with direct connection for sprinkler systems and extinguishing systems with open nozzles - Requirements and testing
Abstract
The use of direct connection in accordance with this document should take account of fire protection requirements on the one hand and drinking water hygiene requirements on the other. Standards for components for sprinkler and water spray systems are developed in the Technical Committee CEN/TC 191 "Fixed firefighting systems" as the EN 12259 series of standards. Annex A contains information on internal and external monitoring. This document specifies requirements and test methods for direct connection exclusively for sprinkler systems and extinguishing systems with open nozzles that do not contain any additives and no additional water feeds and water make-up feeds into the sprinkler network or no additional pressurization system in the sprinkler network. For hygienic reasons, the area of application is limited to systems in which the extinguishing water requirement is not greater than the drinking water requirement. Irrespective of this, the maximum extinguishing water flow rate is limited to a flow rate of 50 m3/h. The requirements of this document are applicable together with the requirements of DIN 1988-600. NOTE Additives are e.g. extinguishing agent additives and antifreeze. Additional water feeds are e.g. pump systems, compressed air/water tanks, fire department feeds, tank vehicles, self-supply systems or bodies of water.
