DIN Standards Committee Colour

Overview

This document has been prepared by NA 025-00-25 GA "Aufsichtfarben für Verkehrszeichen und Reflexstoffe zur Verkehrssicherung" ("Surface colours for traffic signs and retroreflective sheeting materials for traffic safety purposes") of the Colour Standards Committee (FNF) at DIN. DIN 6171-1 does not take into account the effect of retroreflection. A further standard about chromaticity regions under light supplied by the vehicle is in preparation. Attention is drawn to the possibility that some of the elements of this document may be the subject of patent rights. DIN shall not be held responsible for identifying any or all such patent rights. This document specifies chromaticity regions for non-retroreflective, retroreflective and fluorescent retroreflective materials for traffic signs and traffic installations in all modes of transport. Fixed, vertical road traffic signs are excluded for which standard series DIN EN 12899 shall be used. Tables 1 to 6 partly correspond with DIN EN 12899-1:2008-02, Tables 1, 2, 16 and 17. Individual chromaticity regions have been expanded with regard to DIN EN 12899-1:2008-02. In addition, chromaticity regions for microprismatic retro-reflective sheetings (structure C in accordance with DIN 67520) and surface colour purple are specified. Other requirements for traffic sign colours in the individual modes of transport, for example, regarding their durability, are specified between manufacturer and user, for example, by technical delivery and quality conditions.
