Alloyed steels - Determination of nickel content - Inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometric method; German version EN 10361:2015

Title (German)

Legierte Stähle - Bestimmung des Nickelanteils - Verfahren mittels optischer Emissionsspektrometrie mit induktiv gekoppeltem Plasma; Deutsche Fassung EN 10361:2015

Overview

This document specifies an inductively coupled plasma emission spectrometric method for the determination of nickel content (mass fractions) between 5,0 % (m/m) and 25,0 % (m/m) in alloyed steels. For the chemical analysis using optical ICP emission spectrometry, the sample is introduced into an inductively coupled argon plasma. At a plasma temperature of 5 000 K to 7 000 K the elements contained in the plasma will be atomized and excited to emit light. For the simultaneous analysis, the emitted light is split into element-specific wavelengths by a polychromator and the light intensity is detected by means of a series of permanently installed photomultipliers. The light intensity is proportionate to the amount of the excited atoms of an element contained in the plasma. The method described in this standard is not suitable for alloyed steels having a niobium and/or tungsten contents higher than 0,1 %. The committee responsible for this standard is NA 021-00-30 AA "Analysenverfahren" ("Methods of chemical analysis") at DIN.
