DIN Standards Committee Iron and Steel
CEN/TC 459/SC 12/WG 5
Revision of EN 10020:2000
For a variety of reasons it is necessary to classify steel grades into different types. These include the definition of steel types in material standards, to provide guidance for users of steel products, for trade and for education. Currently these classifications are based on chemical composition only. However, with the rapid development of new steel types which has taken place over recent decades this approach is no longer considered adequate. The working group will look at establishing a new European standard which is based around a more comprehensive classification system which is more relevant to current material use.
