Overview

This standard specifies the dimensions, materials and designs for handrails and footrails used on masts, posts and walls of ships. Handrails and footrails on walls of ships serve as escape routes from deckhouses. In addition to the hand and footrails, backrests for masts are described which serve as safety barriers. The standard also specifies the mounting of handrails and footrails and provides examples for assembly.
