Information technology - Automated infrastructure management (AIM) systems - Requirements, data exchange and applications; German version EN 50667:2016

Title (German)

Informationstechnik - Systeme für automatisiertes Infrastruktur-Management (AIM) - Anforderungen, Schnittstellen und Anwendungen; Deutsche Fassung EN 50667:2016

Overview

Application-neutral communication cable systems in accordance with the standards of the DIN EN 50713 series have been an indispensable part of a company's IT infrastructure for many years. Their functionality during operation and thus their benefit for the company crucially depends on the correct, always up-to-date documentation of the passive network elements. DIN EN 50174-1 (VDE 0800-174-1) therefore requires that a management system appropriate to the size of the communication cable system is available. Network administrators also need a system to manage the active network devices. Ideally, such systems should be able to be integrated into building management systems in order to be able to manage a property holistically and without system interruptions. A number of manufacturer-specific software solutions with varying functionality and power have therefore become established on the market, but these generally do not have open interfaces and therefore cannot, or only with great effort, be integrated into other building management systems. The ISO/IEC 18598 standardization project ISO/IEC JTC 1/SC 25 "Interconnection of information technology equipment" addresses this issue. The aim is to define the minimum functionality of AIM systems and their interfaces in order to simplify data exchange with and integration into other systems and thus facilitate the use of AIM systems. ISO/IEC 18598 specifies the requirements and gives recommendations for the attributes of automated infrastructure management (AIM) systems. The standard explains how AIM systems can contribute to operational efficiency and deliver benefits to: a) cabling infrastructure and connected device administration; b) facilities and IT management processes and systems; c) other networked management processes and systems (such as intelligent building automation); d) business information systems covering asset tracking and asset management together with event notifications and alerts that assist with physical network security. The standard specifies a framework of requirements and recommendations for data exchange with other systems. This document is intended to support - building managers and owners; - AIM solution providers; - network infrastructure planners; - network administrators; - data center managers; - IT managers; - providers of management system software; - software integrators. It is planned to incorporate this standard into the European body of standards. The responsible committee is DKE/GUK 715.3 "Informationstechnische Verkabelung von Gebäudekomplexen" ("Customer premises cabling") of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) at DIN and VDE.
