Overview
This document is the generic standard for the determination of gauges for railroad infrastructure and deals with aspects of the interfaces between vehicles and infrastructure as part of the EN 15273 series of standards. This European Standard is part of the series "Railway applications - Gauges", which consists of the following parts: Part 1: General - Common rules for Rolling Stock and infrastructure. Part 2: Rolling stock gauge. Part 3: Structure gauges. This document is intended to replace existing regulations in this area, in particular UIC leaflets of the 505 series, and to define a common standard. This third part contains calculation rules for infrastructure gauge required for the operation of railway vehicles of certain profiles, including the consideration of constraints. This standard also regulates the allocation of responsibilities between infrastructure managers and vehicle manufacturers. This European standard defines various profiles that are required for the arrangement, inspection and maintenance of trackside structures and specifies various parameters for the correspondingly defined structure gauge. A calculation method for the various structure gauges with corresponding equations is established. Furthermore, rules are laid down for defining the track center distance, for the arrangement of platforms and for determining the structure gauge for the passage of pantographs. On the one hand, a structure gauge defines the space that shall be kept clear and maintained in order to allow the passage of rail vehicles, and on the other hand, it defines calculation rules and test conditions for the gauge of vehicles that are used in one or more networks without the risk of contact. A structure gauge represents a clear agreement between the infrastructure manager and the vehicle manufacturer. Normative references exist to the EN 13232, EN 13803-1 series of standards, to the other parts of the EN 15273 series of standards as well as EN 50119 and EN 50367; there are further significant references to UIC leaflets, in particular the UIC 505 series. This document has been prepared under a mandate given to CEN by the European Commission and the European Free Trade Association, and supports essential requirements of EU Directive 2008/57/EC. Compared to the previous standard, changes have been made to correct significant errors and inaccuracies, particularly with regard to figures, formulas and tables.
