Overview
This part of IEC 60794 is a family specification that covers outdoor optical fibre cables intended for rugged terrestrial rapid/multiple deployment. These cables, with enhanced mechanical, environmental and ingress performance may be used wherever a rapid or multiple deployment is relevant (for example, mobile broadcast units, emergency rescue services, outdoor motion-robotics, etcetera). This standard contains the minimum requirements, the details and the test conditions for 20 different tests. Thus the standard provides investment security for manufacturers and users and gives testing laboratories and manufacturers defined details for testing. The responsible committee is DKE/UK 412.6 "Lichtwellenleiter und Lichtwellenkabel" ("Optical fibres and fibre cables") of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) at DIN and VDE.
