DIN EN 62368-1 ; VDE 0868-1:2016-05
Audio/video, information and communication technology equipment - Part 1: Safety requirements (IEC 62368-1:2014, modified + Cor.:2015); German version EN 62368-1:2014 + AC:2015

Title (German)

Einrichtungen für Audio/Video-, Informations- und Kommunikationstechnik - Teil 1: Sicherheitsanforderungen (IEC 62368-1:2014, modifiziert + Cor.:2015); Deutsche Fassung EN 62368-1:2014 + AC:2015

Overview

This part of IEC 62368 is applicable to the safety of electrical and electronic equipment within the field of audio, video, information and communication technology, and business and office machines with a rated voltage not exceeding 600 V. This standard does not include requirements for performance or functional characteristics of equipment. The standard is also applicable to components and subassemblies intended for incorporation in this equipment. Such components and subassemblies need not comply with every requirement of the standard, provided that the complete equipment, incorporating such components and subassemblies, does comply. The standard DIN EN 62368-1 (VDE 0868-1) has been completely restructured compared to DIN EN 60950-1 (VDE 0805-1) and DIN EN 60065 (VDE 0860) and is based on a new safety approach. This new approach is based on the premise that damage can occur when energy of sufficient strength and duration is applied to an exposed part. Consideration of the hazard risk posed by potential energy sources is at the forefront of safe equipment design. Established procedures for equipment development and testing cannot be continued unseen. This standard does not apply to: - manufacturing processes except safety testing; - injurious effects of gases released by thermal decomposition or combustion; - disposal processes; - effects of transport (other than as specified in this standard); - effects of storage of materials, components, or the equipment itself; - the likelihood of injury from particulate radiation such as alpha particles and beta particles; - the likelihood of thermal injury due to radiated or convected thermal energy; - the likelihood of injury due to flammable liquids; - the use of the equipment in oxygen-enriched or explosive atmospheres; - exposure to chemicals other than as specified in Clause 7; - electrostatic discharge events; - environmental aspects; - requirements for functional safety. It is intended as a replacement for DIN EN 60950-1 (VDE 0805-1):2014-08 and DIN EN 60065 (VDE 0860):2015-11. The responsible committee is DKE/K 711 "Sicherheit elektronischer Einrichtungen für Audio/Video-, Informations- und Kommunikationstechnik" ("Safety of electronic equipment within the field of audio/video, information technology and communication technology") of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) at DIN and VDE.
