DKE German Commission for Electrical, Electronic & Information Technologies of DIN and VDE

Overview

During the revision of DIN EN 60079-2 (VDE 0170-3) at the international level, the applicability of the type of protection "pressurization" has also been extended in the sixth edition to atmospheres that are at risk of explosion due to combustible dust. Since the overview of changes contained in DIN EN 60079-2 (VDE 0170-3):2015-05 referred only to the predecessor standard of DIN EN 60079-2 (VDE 0170-3), which only covered explosive gas atmospheres, a supplement was necessary which now also included the changes for explosive dust atmospheres which were previously listed in DIN EN 61241-4 (VDE 0170-15-4):2007-07. This has now been done with Corrigendum 1:2016 to DIN EN 60079-2 (VDE 0170-3):2015-05. As an aid to the reader of the Corrigendum the list of changes has been divided into three categories: - minor and editorial changes; - extension; - significant technical changes. Only one change classified as a significant technical change should be highlighted. Significant technical changes: 1. Impact test of pressurized enclosures. The exception from the impact test for enclosures where no mechanical damage is expected, contained in DIN EN 61241-4 (VDE 0170-15-4), is missing in DIN EN 60079-2 (VDE 0170-3):2015-05, as no exception from the impact test is contained here. All enclosures shall comply with the requirements of Table 2 of DIN EN 60079-2 (VDE 0170-3):2015-05. The responsible committee is DKE/K 241 "Schlagwetter- und explosionsgeschützte elektrische Betriebsmittel" ("Electrical apparatus for potentially explosive atmospheres") of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) at DIN and VDE.
