Overview
This standard comprises the German version of European Standard EN 61786-1:2014 which adopts the International Standard IEC 61786-1. It provides guidelines for measuring the values of quasi-static magnetic and electric fields with frequencies in the range from 1 Hz to 100 kHz and of magnetic DC fields. The measured values facilitate determination of the exposure of human beings in above mentioned fields. The specified instruments are free-body meters and devices operating with ground reference (coil probes, magnetometers). The standard describes functional principles of the measuring instruments and identifies requirements regarding the specifications of field strength meters. It gives specifications regarding, among others, the measurement range, the range of operating temperature and humidity, the readability of the indicator, the dimensions, the weight and information on the selection of the measurement instrument. Furthermore, the draft describes calibration procedures (methods for generating magnetic or electric fields, for voltage or current supply, comparison with a reference field), specifies requirements for the measurement uncertainty of instruments and describes general field characteristics. This also includes testing the electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) of those instruments intended to contribute to the protection of equipment against disturbances due to measuring instruments and to the protection of measuring instruments against disturbance due to electromagnetic emissions from other equipment. This standard supplements the specifications of other standards such as EN 50413 regarding the equipment and methods for the measurement of electric, magnetic and electromagnetic fields with respect to the exposure of human beings in such fields. The responsible committee is DKE/K 764 "Sicherheit in elektromagnetischen Feldern" ("Safety in electromagnetic fields") of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) at DIN and VDE.
