Title (German)

Verfahren zur Bestimmung von bestimmten Substanzen in Produkten der Elektrotechnik - Teil 3-2: Screening - Gesamtbrom in Polymeren und Elektronik durch Verbrennungsaufschluss - Ionen-Chromatographie (IEC 62321-3-2:2013); Deutsche Fassung EN 62321-3-2:2014

Overview

The International standard series IEC 62321 provides the electrotechnical industry with test methods which allow determination of the concentration of particular substances of concern contained in electrotechnical products on a globally consistent basis. This Part 3-2 describes the screening analysis of total bromine (Br) in homogenous polymers and materials used in electrotechnical products by means of ion chromatography after combustion (C-IC). The C-IC yields information on the total bromine content present in the sample but does not identify compounds or valence stages of the bromine. Therefore, the screening analysis of bromine requires special attention, since the result represents the present total content of bromine only. The presence of brominated flame retardants PBB or PBDE shall be verified by testing. The responsible committee is DKE/K 135 "Erfassung von Stoffen in Produkten der Elektrotechnik" ("Determination of substances in products of the electrotechnical industry") of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) at DIN and VDE.
