Multi-element metallic cables used in analogue and digital communication and control - Part 6-2: Sectional specification for unscreened cables characterised up to 250 MHz - Work area and patch cord cables; German version EN 50288-6-2:2013
Mehradrige metallische Daten- und Kontrollkabel für analoge und digitale Übertragung - Teil 6-2: Rahmenspezifikation für ungeschirmte Kabel bis 250 MHz - Geräteanschlusskabel und Schaltkabel; Deutsche Fassung EN 50288-6-2:2013
Overview
Within the framework of periodic review of safety standards as well as generic, sectional and detail standards in the field of communication cables, the previous 2003 edition of standard EN 50288-2-2 has been revised. This sectional specification covers unscreened cables up to 250 MHz, to be used as work area cables to connect a telecommunications outlet to the terminal equipment and for patch cord cables to establish connections on a patch panel as defined in EN 50173. All clauses and table contents of the standard have been completely revised and updated. The standard deals with the electrical, mechanical, transmission and environmental performance characteristics of screened cables, when tested in accordance with the referenced test methods. Major chapters deal with the topics cable construction, tests and requirements for cables. The requirements differentiate between electric tests, mechanical tests, environmental tests and fire performance tests. Annex A of the standard deals with the power over ethernet (POE). Annex B also contains a Blank Detail Specification. This sectional specification 50288 Part 6-2 (VDE 0819-6-2) shall be applied together with generic specification EN 50288-1 (VDE 0819-1). The following modifications have been made with respect to DIN EN 50288-6-2 (VDE 0819-6-2):2004-08: a) All clauses have been revised, taking into account the entire content of the previous edition in accordance with the current structure and design requirements. b) Informative Annex A - power over ethernet (POE) has been added containing the recommended maximum voltage, current, current density and temperature rating values for cables used for POE applications. c) Informative Annex B has been added containing a Blank Detail Specification with reference to the corresponding subclauses of generic specification EN 50288-1. The responsible committee is Subcommittee DKE/UK 412.1 "Symmetrische Kabel und Leitungen, Drähte" ("Symmetric cables and conductors, wires") of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) at DIN and VDE.
