Reaktionsharzmassen und Kaltvergussmassen zum Abdichten und zum elektrischen Isolieren - Fachgrundnorm; Text Deutsch und Englisch
Overview
The divisions required on ships are designed as decks, bulkheads or walls. They serve for horizontal (deck) and vertical (bulkheads, walls) subdivision and shall be water- and gas-tight and fire-retardant according to SOLAS 74, Chapter II-2; A 3. Requirements for the resistance against fire and fumes are contained in the respective IMO resolution A.754(18). In order to feed the ducts, pipes and electrical cables pertaining to installation through the ship, the divisions are frequently penetrated, however, they are thus provided with openings. After completion of the installation work, the "integrity" of the surface, that is their properties regarding fire-retardance and water- and gas-tightness prior installation shall be restored. In order to achieve this goal, standardized frames according to VG 88712 or VG 88713 are welded into the openings through which the cables and pipes are subsequently fed through. The frames may only be loaded up to a specified maximum cross-sectional area so there is still enough space for reliable sealing of the space between the installation carried out an the frame wall. This space will be filled ("sealed") with resin based reactive compounds or cold-curing compounds according to this standard. After curing, the compounds stick to the frame walls and the fed-through cables and pipes in a water- and gas-tight manner. Furthermore, they have fire-retardant properties. The former penetration is now sealed with a so-called cable gland or pipe penetration. The properties prescribed (by law) with regard to fire protection (class type A or B with various exposure times) shall be verified by a specific test ("IMO Fire test procedure"). For this purpose, an accordingly strong heat flow is applied from one side on a test-setup (wall section with filled and mounted penetration). Temperature measurements are carried out on the other side of the wall. A type test for verification of water- and gas-tightness is usually demanded by the society responsible for classification of the ship. Additional requirements for shock and vibration resistance of the penetrations apply for marine vessels since they may be endangered by bomb fires or mines. These additional requirements can be met by the penetrations filled with resin based reactive compounds or cold-curing compounds in accordance with this standard. This standard has been prepared by Working Committee NA 132-03-54 AA "Installationssysteme, Kabelverlegung auf Schiffen" ("Installation systems, cable installation on ships") at DIN e. V.
