Overview
The application of ultrasonic sound in the lower MHz frequency range for physiotherapeutic purposes is widespread in medicine. Such ultrasonic equipment consists of a generator producing high-frequency electric energy and usually a handheld treatment head, commonly known as applicator. The treatment head consists of a transducer, usually a piezoelectric material disc which transduces the electric energy into ultrasonic sound, and is often designed for human body contact. The responsible committee is DKE/GUK 821.3 "Medizinische Ultraschallgeräte" ("Ultrasonics") of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) at DIN and VDE.
