Overview
This part of the DIN EN 62040 series of standards applies for uninterruptible power systems (UPS) with energy storage devices in the d.c. link. The primary task of an UPS in accordance with this standard is to ensure continuous a.c. power. The UPS can also serve for improvement of the quality of the energy supply by ensuring compliance with the specified characteristics. This International Standard applies to movable, stationary, fixed or for building-in UPS for use in low-voltage distribution systems and intended to be installed in any operator accessible area or in restricted access locations. It specifies the requirements to ensure safety for the operator and ordinary person who may come into contact with the UPS and, where specifically stated, for the service person. Thus, this standard shall ensure the safety of installed UPS consisting of a system of interconnected units or of independent units, subject to installing, operating and maintaining the UPS in the manner prescribed by the manufacturer. DIN EN 62040-1 shall be used in conjunction with DIN EN 60950-1 which is referred to in this standard as the reference document. Electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) requirements of UPS and associated terms and definitions are given in DIN EN 62040-2. The responsible committee is DKE/K 331 "Leistungselektronik" ("Power electronics") of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) at DIN and VDE.
