Overview
This International Standard comprises general principles and detailed requirements for the design and formulation of all types of instructions for use that will be necessary or helpful for users of products of all kinds, ranging from a tin of paint to large or highly complex products, such as large industrial machinery, turnkey based plants or buildings. This standard is directed at all parties involved in the preparation of instructions for use, for example: - manufacturers, producers, technical writers, technical illustrators, software designers, translators or other people engaged in the work of conceiving and drafting such instructions for use; - authorised representatives of the manufacturers or producers in the country in which the product is used. This standard does not specify a fixed amount of documentation that has to be delivered with a product as this standard shall apply for all kinds of products and shall be both interdisciplinary and technically comprehensive. The amount of documentation required will depend on the complexity of the product in question. This part of the International Standard provides a guideline as to how such instructions shall be prepared. The responsible committee is DKE/K 113 "Produktdatenmodelle, Informationsstrukturen, Dokumentation und graphische Symbole" ("Product data models, information structures, documentation and graphical symbols") of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) at DIN and VDE.
