Overview
The standard is applicable for interchangeable lamps (filament lamps and discharge lamps) for use in the headlamps, fog lamps and signalling lamps of road vehicles. It is particularly applicable for those lamps subject to legislation. In particular, it covers those filament lamps contained in Regulation No. 37 of the Geneva agreement of 20 March 1958 of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (ECE). It can, however, be used for other lamps within the scope of this standard. The standard specifies the technical requirements with methods of test and basic interchangeability (dimensional, electrical and luminous) of series-manufactured lamps and test lamps (Etalon). Other requirements such as life, lumen maintenance, torsion strength and resistance to vibration and shock are included in DIN EN 60810. The responsible committee is UK 521.1 "Elektrische Lampen" ("Electrical lamps") of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) at DIN and VDE.
