DKE German Commission for Electrical, Electronic & Information Technologies of DIN and VDE

Overview

This standard contains the German version of the European Standard EN 50360:2001+Cor.:2006+A1:2012 with specifications to demonstrate the compliance of mobile phones with the basic restrictions related to human exposure to electromagnetic fields in the frequency range 300 MHz to 3 GHz and is associated with the Council Recommendation of 12 July 1999 on the limitation of exposure of the general public to electromagnetic fields (0 Hz to 300 GHz) (1999/519/EC) (Official Journal L 197 of 30 July 1999). This standard is applicable for all devices emitting electromagnetic fields (EMF) intended for use with the emitting structure of the equipment and that are held for this purpose in the direct vicinity of the human ear (for instance mobile phones, cordless phones). The purpose of this standard is the demonstration of compliance of the device with the basic restrictions (specific absorption rate (SAR)) that have been specified for the safety of persons in high-frequency electromagnetic fields. The associated measurement and calculation methods are described in the European Standard EN 62209-1:2006, the German version of which has been published as DIN EN 62209-1 (VDE 0848-209-1):2007-03. Through the Amendment A1:2012 the second paragraph in clause 4 has been deleted to avoid misinterpretations. The latter could occur due to the fact that it has not been specified explicitly which restrictions can be used alternatively from the cited ICNIRP Guidelines. The responsible committee is K 764 "Sicherheit in elektromagnetischen Feldern" ("Safety in electromagnetic fields") of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) at DIN and VDE.
